Fight the Colle System with King’s Indian Defense

King’s Indian vs. The Colle System (1.d4 Nf6 2.Nf3 d6 3.e3)

White opts for a quiet, solid setup with e3, but quiet doesn’t mean safe. This chapter gives you a complete system to seize space and launch a kingside attack.

After 3…g6, you’ll learn how to handle every White setup: the main line with 4.Be2 and b4 expansion (where Black builds a crushing kingside attack with …e4, …Bf5, …h5, and …Ng4 sacrificial themes), the 4.b3 Bb2 setup (countered by …Re8 and …e5), the early 4.b4 space grab (punished by …c5!), and 4.Bd3 (met with …e5 and a solid …c6/…d5 plan).

All of White’s key 8th-move alternatives are covered: 8.b3 (Black seizes space with …e4 and launches …h5-h4), 8.e4 (where …exd4 and …d5 gives tremendous compensation), 8.Qc2 (met by …Nh5 with an improved classical structure), and the critical 8.b4 leading to the sharpest play where Black’s kingside assault overwhelms White’s slow queenside operation.
